From November 22 ,2017 to January 2, 2018 I had a solo show of my lightscapes at Trinity Gallery, Shenkman Arts Centre, Orleans, Ottawa. There were lots of positive remarks ("genius", "fabulous" , "incredible". etc, etc.)

Mike Taylor did a great job of hanging according to my design. He makes the whole thing flow so smoothly. Thanks, Mike.

First paperback book for artists now published !

Posted on November 27, 2015 at 11:15 AM Comments comments (948)

The paperback “Money Smarts for Visual Artists: Secrets, Surprises and Essentials”, is now launched, published by Amazon, November, 2015.

This book is written specifically for visual artists. Useful for all levels of experience, from student to emerging, to mid-career to senior. With the critical info here, visual artists learn art related financial secrets and surprises not generally revealed in art training courses . This book is also useful for self-employed designers, commercial artists and commercial photographers. And Canadian artists living abroad where they are unlikely to be able to get advice on Canadian tax issues.

In Part I, the practical financial day to day nitty gritty basics are made easy to understand. In Part II, what expenses can and can’t be claimed and how and why are explained. And in Part III, the audit is demystified. What triggers an audit, the artist’s rights, the procedures, and how to win an audit are revealed.

The artist can use this book as a guide for DIY and/or as a basis for fruitful collaboration with accountants. Info is based on Canadian law, but also useful for countries based on British law (UK, USA, AU, NZ ) The book is available at www.amazon.com/author/jessieparker

Pop up gallery show

Posted on September 14, 2015 at 4:15 PM Comments comments (722)

Since July 25 and continuing to the end of September, 2015, I have been showing at the new pop up, artist run,  Galérie Côté, at 98 Richmond Rod, just west of Island Park Drive.

It is in a large condo complex, and we have been able to take advantage of the loaned space, owned by Asgcroft Homes for that short space of time. The ceilings are very high and lots of light in the large space. Ideal for art display.

The artist who started it is Yan-Éric Côté, an artist from Mont Tremblant in Quebec. He chose 4 local artists to run it for him (2 beginners and 2 experienced (myself and Judith Rostenne, with who I had shown at the Atrium Gallery in the spring.)

My wall is 28 ft wide ,giving me lots of useable space. I have shown 2 different collections of photo based digital art.

We had to gallery sit 24 hours a month. The time went surprisingly quickly, as it was enjoyable to chat with people who dropped in.

As of October 1 the gallery has been closed. Now needed the real estate company that loaned us the space.

I am now represented by the online gallery Fine Art America. Go to my unique website for that here.I am putting up a wide variety of my works, including many not shown on this website.

FAA is offering FREE shipping to UK and Europe orders for metal prints until August 31,2014. Also no import duties.Fast service of 1 day to UK and 2 to 5 days to Europe.

FAA services orders worldwide, but mostly USA and Canada. Very fast and reliable and secure. The order can be in any currency (see the currency calculator at top right of my home page.

I currently have 11 images of Toronto and 12 of NYC in the Urban Jazz Suite. Which is more than on this website.

Business Plan Changes

Posted on October 31, 2013 at 4:15 PM Comments comments (691)

Some recent events have resulted in some major changes in the presentation of my artworks.

My one year contract with my (now former) Florida gallery has come to an end as of today. I am not renewing with them. They were allowing gallery visitors to believe that my original limited edition prints were in fact reproductions of paintings! In spite of what I thought was clear understanding to the contrary. Of course this drastically affected the perception of value as reproductions are normally valued at about 20% of original print valuations.

And a shipment back was so badly packed that the crates arrived very damaged, though miraculously, the art was OK. The cost to ship back was very high. I was so shocked at both the cost and damage that I did not dare have the final canvases shipped back, so left them there. No communication from them since then, so I have no way to know what happened to them...

In any case, all of this has put me off US galleries for the time being. So my plans to find permanent galleries in the USA are on hold, possibly permanently.

The other event which has made a big change to my ongoing business plan was the Art Toronto event last weekend. This event was a huge show of galleries across Canada and several international. Very impressive. I discovered that few if any artists are printing editions on canvas. Why, I don’t know. I note that there is lots of photo based art, all of it printed on paper or metal. Often quite large. The paper prints are shown in shadow box frames or mounted to diBond and faced with acrylic, with floater ( a support on the back that makes the print appear to be “floating” on the wall.) I have been researching ways to print on metal, so will proceed with that for my  newest suites, with other editions on paper which can be presented in either or both of the above ways. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.

I am also reducing the number of prints in each edition, which also increases the perceived value as well. Only one set of editions will be on canvas. See the galleries and Info sections for details. I have also taken steps to remove or greatly reduce the digital “painting” techniques in the "Hidden" suite. Hopefully this will avoid any mistaken perception of repro’s of paintings! The Urban Jazz suite is pure photography anyway. In future, use of digital painting techniques will be minimal to none or greatly changed . Stay tuned on that. And of course the prints are referred to as "archival inkjet" or "archival pigmented inks" on paper/metal.
